I don’t need to tell my loyal readers just how much I love my ‘Ozpig!’ I love it that much, that every year when the colder weather starts to kick in, we give one of these away here at Camping Country Australia. Designed by a local family business right here on the Sunshine Coast, it is now one of Australia’s best camping gadgets. Now when I say gadget – I don’t mean something you use once and store in the shed. Ohhh No…. this gadget is something you just can’t seem get enough of, and in fact – we probably use ours at home on the verandah more than we do when out camping.
If you love a good roast pork on the rotisserie – make sure you watch the short video below till the end, as we have done quite a few now on our own Ozpig. To be honest, my very first test and trial was a complete failure – we cooked it too fast with logs that were too large (the outside was perfect and the inside was raw). But that was many moons ago – after countless tests and trials, we now have our Ozpig roast pork just right. It’s a case of fuelling the Ozpig with smaller thinner hardwood sticks (roughy about 25cm long and 3cm in diametre) and I feed them slowly/periodically into the Ozpig over 2 or 3 hours – ensuring I have about 3 sticks burning at any one time. The less.. more consistent heat, with more smaller timber fed in slowly and the longer the time it usually takes to cook… the better the end result!
