G'day...........& happy Easter to everyone!!!
This time of year I usually start to talk about the cooler weather kicking in, the days are beautiful & it's time to enjoy the best time of year to go camping. "It's not too hot....it’s not too cold, it's just right". But as you know we’ve had rain, rain, rain & more rain. The cooler camping season hasn't started off in favour for you avid campers.
I did manage to sneak a week off to go camping. To play it safe I decided to stay close to home & I grabbed my wife Kerri, our two daughters Sari & Maisie and we headed down to Cotton Tree Caravan Park. Yes.....I did end up being peppered with wind on the Friday but the 3 days prior were fantastic. The boys at Coleman lent me one of their new Tasman 2 room canvas tent & it copped 24 hours of some of the worst rain & wind that I have experienced camping!! There is nothing like good old canvas tents, they are indestructible & they will last you for years. Note: I also had a tarp up over the tent with a gap between the tent and tarp, this is cooler (we had a 35 degree day) & keeps your tent safe from the elements that can break the material down like sun, rain, sap & bird droppings. I also managed a kip in the Mexican hammock with the rug rats!!!
We have a winner of our last competition. You had to guess how many plastic rope runners were in the "Tub Trug Bucket". Our winner was Jessica Poole with a guess of 725. For interest sake, the tub contained 736 of the rope runners. Thanks to Coleman for the Foxy Lady light & congrats to Jessica once again.
Speaking of giveaways, I have an absolute cracker for the Easter season. Come on in to the store & celebrate Easter with us & give yourself the chance to win a 3.5 KG Easter Egg from Darrell Lea valued at $185.00. You don't need to spend anything to enter. Taking a picture of my girls, Maisie & Sari, beside an Easter Egg that is as big as them wasn't an easy task!!.
As much as I am a camper, I also love fishing. I currently sponsor a local family orientated fishing club called the "Sunshine Coast Sport Fishing Club." Last Thursday night the club held their monthly meeting in store. Approximately 30-40 people attended. As well as their clubs agendas I gave a few demonstrations of the latest products to hit our shelves. I also cooked up a pork roast with self saucing apple sauce in a Hill Billy Camp oven. If you are interested in joining a family orientated fishing club simply go on to my web site www.campingcountryaustralia.com.au & click on the SCSFC logo to find their details.
With the windy weather we are having I am getting asked a lot, "Why are my pegs pulling out of the ground with my tarp?" It is simple; without some sort of give, your tarp becomes rigid & when it blows & moves around, something has to give. It is almost always the weakest point that gives first. Your peg is usually the first thing to pull out. If you peg is strong & big enough, then the next thing to give is usually your tarp, eyelet or D-ring & these all tear out!! The spring has give & it absorbs all the stress & movement of your tarp flapping around. They are between $1.70 to $2.30 each. They are galvanised which means they won't rust & they will last you longer. They also make your trip much more enjoyable & stress free. Not forgetting they save you loads of dollars in tarp repairs.....such a cheap investment huh???!!!
Staff Profile
This month's staff profile is on Jeff Dyne. Jeff is a walking camping encyclopaedia. Jeff has been working for our family business now for 6 years & as he says "You have had the pleasure of employing me!!" It has been a pleasure!! Jeff's roll at Camping Country Australia is ordering & stock control as well as running & managing our energetic team. He is quiet in nature, a pleasure to work with & a damn good mate of mine on a personal note. He has a beautiful wife Kate, a gorgeous daughter Jaya & another billy lid on the way......good luck with the bub Jeff. There is nearly nothing Jeff doesn't know about camping. As you know, I only employ people that like camping & Jeff is passionate about it. Come in for a chat with Jeff this Easter & he'll point you in the right direction. Thanks Jeffro!!!
Last but not least Black Diamond has released a brand new L.E.D head lamp called ‘Sprinter’. It is the first headlamp released in Australia that has a built in rechargeable battery. It is also the first L.E.D headlamp to have a built in single button dimmer switch that will sit at any brightness you want. The sprinter is not only now the best quality headlamp in Australia it is the most innovative. It's light weight, compact, comes with the recharging adaptors & is valued at $169.99.
Hope you enjoyed my March newsletter edition. I am always looking for feedback on how to improve my newsletter. Any feedback would be grateful. Don't forget to pop in & go in the draw for the giant Easter Egg & any knowledge, information or advice my team & I can give please come & see us before you head off camping this Easter. I am sure with the rainy weather we are having at the moment, the South Easter QLD country side will look smashing. Possibly the best it has looked for years. The dams are full, the grass in green, the temperature is the best to enjoy a warm day & a warm fire at night & never under estimate how healthy it is for you and your kids to get back to nature & all that camping has to offer.
Cheers,
Jarrod
