FEB 2010
Hi everyone!
Believe it or not, I haven't put a newsletter out this year as yet. I hope your Christmas & New Year celebrations all went well. To start it off I have some news for you. Our store has had a name change. We are no longer called Camping Country. You will see the branding on the front of the store change over the next few weeks (an artist's impression is pictured below) We are now called "Camping Country Australia."

Camping Country Australia's New Logo

I have been asked by quite a few people  "How was your Christmas & New Year Jarrod?" "Well it was a cracker....Thanks for asking!" As usual, I am a few kilo heavier & looking to get healthier over the next few months, but what a fun time I had with my family. Christmas is so much fun with kids isn't it?  The shop kept us very busy & without a doubt there is a very real trend building on the Sunny Coast to get back to nature & enjoy everything that camping has to offer. It was great talking to all sorts of people from all walks of life this summer season who decided to get their kids & family back in to the Great Out Doors.............it's just so healthy for all involved.

You will note that the store is still evolving & will keep evolving over the next 6 months. The first stage is complete (the entry, camper trailer & furniture displays) & the second stage has just started to take place. Pop your head in & check out the brand new walking shoes & sock area. I have designed it around an old city hall or ghost town church. I got the idea from some real life pictures of old buildings in an actual American Ghost Town. Here are some sneak preview pictures.

At the moment in store, 2 of my great staff Amy & Nikki have done a wonderful  job coming up with a "Guess how many guy rope runners there are in the bucket." The person who guesses the closest will win a "Foxy Lady rechargeable lantern value at $119.00." The girls have called it "The Love Month Giveaway," to tie it in with Valentines day. So come on in to enter the draw.

Love Month Competition

Speaking of giveaways, over Christmas you had the opportunity to go in the draw for the "Coleman compact kitchen." Thank you to everyone that entered, it was a great prize to win. Coleman are a great company that pride themselves on high quality. My philosophy is, "If you buy Coleman, you buy once!" It just lasts so well. Congratulations to the winners.

For those of you who didn't read our last newsletter, or who haven't been in the shop in the last 2 months.  We advertised our first "Learn to camp the Jarrod Michael way!" camping weekend. This weekend was designed to teach you how to use all your camping gear.  We held it on the 12th & 13th of Feb & it was a huge success. Thank you to all that came along. We had about 100 people attend (about 60 adults & 40 children) I demonstrated how to set up a tarp stress free, by yourself!  Alan from Evakool had a section on 12 volt fridges, batteries packs & solar panels. Brett (one of my best mates), the 5 start resort chef, cooked up a camp oven dinner storm. And Liv (my sister) & Charlie sang the night away with some good easy listening country music. Check the web site for all details, including recipes & photos of the weekend. Thank you to all that participated. We can't wait to do another one. I will keep you posted for our next camp out event. It will be in the cooler part of the year.

Camping Clinic

If you are in to heading north to Cape York this year & you need some ultra quick & compact camping gear. I have just set up a compact touring campsite down stairs in the store. A compact tent, camp kitchen, table, annex matting & chairs combo on display, I believe this is a 1/2  hour set up time at most. This type of camp site is for those who are time poor & setting up camp everyday & who don't want to tow anything.  A great idea with this tent, that has made a once terrible tent design, into a great tent design. It is a pole system called a "Side pole kit." What looks like a traditional centre pole tent (the centre pole is always in the way) now has "No centre pole!!" clever huh? Come on in a check this tent out. A just $369 for the tent & $49.95 for the side pole kit. What a great buy!!

Staff Profile

Last but not least, I have a highly energetic guy working for me by the name of Aaron. Aaron is my expert in the 12 volt fridge department of the store. Aaron has been with us for just over 2 years now. He uses the product on our campouts & understands them inside & out. So if you are heading away on a camping road trip this dry season come on in & ask  Aaron for advice. On a personal note: Aarons interest are in music. He is in a local band called The Marsden Lee's (Nicknamed "The Rock Star" by his work friends), he loves to surf & tell "Un funny jokes". Leave the funny stuff to me Aaron!!

Don't forget that it is going to cool down a bit over the next month or so. It is an absolute ideal time of year to get camping. The parks are quieter, the weather is better & it is a good time to relax & unwind now that the kids are back at school settled into a routine.

I do apologise for my lack of input in to my web site. I can assure you this month it will be quite heavily updated & back on track. More hints, updated blog & finally a new catalogue.
I will keep you posted.
Cheers,
Jarrod
