Jarrod Chandler, head chef & owner of local restaurant “Bluefish Mudjimba,” was in store earlier in December to demonstrate some tantalising seafood Camp cooking. I first met Jarrod & his wife Liz here at Camping Country Australia a few years ago & he is an avid keen camper. Being a chef he said, “I do eat incredibly well when camping & it can be done very simply.” So if you missed out check out his recipes below!!

Customer Camping Trip

Over the years I have met thousands of the nicest people here at Camping Country Australia. They come in, we have a  laugh & we catch up on where they have been & what they have seen. Two of those people are Tony & Maree. Tony & Maree had a magic trip out west a month or so ago & I asked Maree if she wanted to drop us a short story on their trip along with some photo's. This she did & for all of those who would like a read of where they went & what they did CLICK HERE

Thanks Maree, I thoroughly enjoyed the read & I loved the photo's of outback Australia. It makes me want to go straight away!

WORKSHOP & PRESENTATION - "Kids Welcome to Queensland" at Camping Country Australia

A big Thank you to the families that took some time out on their weekend to come down to Camping Country Australia and listen to local Author and mum Sarah Pye.

For those of you that could not make it and missed out here are some of the hot tips Sarah has for travelling with kids.

Travel Tips for Toddlers-

• Keep kids to their usual routine such as meals and rest times
• Take some activities from home with you such as books and games
• Give the kids plenty of pool and beach time

Travel Tips for Primary Age Kids-

• Give them their own bag and let them help pack it
• Allow them their own holiday money
• Take their bikes
• Watch their diet on the road - it's too easy to fill up on junk food
• Break up long journeys in playgrounds (Sarah and her daughter have documented the best playgrounds in Queensland in her book!)
• Geocaching - This is a real world outdoor treasure hunting game! Participants navigate to a specific set of gps coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. You then take one thing out and leave another object of equal or greater value. You and the kids could pick 3 or 4 locations on the way to your destination! For more information on Geocaching visit www.geocaching.com

Travel Tips for Teens-

• Give them an active role such as helping set up camp or doing dishes
• Give them time out without other siblings
• Limit electronic games maybe negotiate some ground rules
• Plenty of shopping and independence
• Let them choose one high ticket item
• Limit homework

Some of Sarah's Favorite Places to Camp in Queensland

• Capricorn Caves - 23km north of Rockhampton perfect family destination with fantastic facilities. Explore the natural beauty of the caves with many tours to suit all ages.
• Carnarvon Gorge- between Roma & Rolleston, Carnarvon is a deep cut in the surrounding landscape which creates its own ecosystem.
• Lake Quarry dinosaur tracks at Winton. The only recorded dinosaur stampede on earth! A must see.
• Turtles at Mon Repos - Bundaberg. One of natures wonders "the most significant loggerhead turtle nesting population in the South Pacific Ocean region" The turtles nest and hatch in huge numbers.
• Thunderbird Park - Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast Hinterland. Many activities for the entire family from horse riding, high ropes, skirmish, bushwalks, dig for thunder eggs, dogs welcome and open fires are allowed too.

There are so many more helpful tips and ideas to plan your next family holiday and make it as stress free as possible.

Local Business Support

I would also like to thank all of you who supported the local businesses in the little country Town of Imbil. Being from the bush & a small country town myself this was something that I was quite passionate about to start with. After the weekend event we were the talk of the town…… I can grant you that! I spoke to both Lisa at the pub & Clint at the butcher & they were ecstatic with the support. Lisa said it was the busiest they have been since Christmas. So well done & thank you all once again……doesn't it feel good to support a local?!

Island Reach Camping Resort

For those of you that hadn't been to the Island Reach Camping Resort before. HOW GOOD IS IT???!!!
It's just beautiful isn't it? There are not too many camping parks that are only an hour away from home, where you can camp on a river bank, have a fire, sit amongst the trees & then literally walk out the front gate & buy yourself a paper, a coffee, have a counter meal & stock up on supplies from the local  butcher & grocery store. Not only that, with all that rolling grass & fishing available you could be anywhere in Australia. Make sure you make the effort to get back real soon.
